The Tour Association annually awards two $1,000 college scholarships, one for an Iowa student and one for an Illinois student. The scholarships will be administered by the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend. Eligible students will be entering freshmen, or continuing college students. Students with a home address in the Iowa counties of Scott, Clinton, Cedar, Muscatine, Louisa and Des Moines are eligible for the Iowa Tour Scholarship. Students with a home address in Whiteside, Rock Island, Henry, Mercer, Knox, Warren and Henderson are eligible for the Illinois Tour Scholarship. Recipients will be selected by a committee based on academic merit, school activities, golf experience, an essay and references. A student can receive the Tour Scholarship only once. Scholarships will be funded through Tour operations and charitable donations. Tax deductible gifts to support the program can be made to the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, 852 Middle Road, Suite 100, Bettendorf, IA, 52722. The goal of the Tour is to make the scholarships permanent by growing a $25,000 endowment fund for each scholarship. Gifts from individuals, corporations, and others to the endowment are welcome. Iowa taxpayers can receive a 25% state income tax credit for their gifts to the Iowa scholarship. By making the scholarships permanent, the Tour creates a legacy that will continue giving golfing students a helping hand in reaching their educational goals. Once fully funded, the Tour will have no further financial commitment to the scholarships. They will continue to be funded by annual distributions from the permanent scholarship funds. The Tour’s goal for their scholarships may take several years to achieve. The success of the Tour to build their scholarship funds will make a lasting difference in the lives of students for generations to come.
