Get ready for Q-C golf

Mother Nature may have taken back the great early season weather that we enjoyed the first part of April, but hopefully the sun will be shining on your golf games real soon.

There are a few upcoming events that are worth noting -- hoping to help them find some sunbeams as they continue to shine. Two of those are the start of the 2005 National City Bank Amateur Tour that is right around the corner and the second annual Class of the Quad-Cities summer event for high-schoolers from both side of the Mississippi River.

But before we expound on those, I'm asking for your help. As we get going with our summer golf coverage, I'd love to have your input on what you would like to read in this space each week. As golfers, I know you have plenty of interesting subjects you're talking about on the course and at the 19th hole. If there are topics, concerns or questions you have that would make good storylines for me, pass them on. Thanks.

NCBAm set to tee off: With the turn of the calendar to May, that brings us closer to the start of the National City Bank Amateur Tour with the May 14-15 Hawthorn Ridge Amateur at the Aledo golf club. Entries are being taken for that event and season memberships are also still being accepted at qcamtour.com.

It will be a new-looking tour this year as the geography changes drastically. New to the schedule this year are the Midland Amateur, the Spirit Hollow/Deere Run Amateur and the Finkbine Amateur. That takes the NCBAm Tour on the road to Kewanee, Burlington and Iowa City as well as a return to the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis.

The old Glynns Creek Am will also have a new look. Head pro John Valliere has turned that tournament into a major event in the Midwest that will also double as an NCBAm stop. It will now give the local amateurs a chance to match their games with those of professionals from clubs throughout the Midwest.

No matter what your handicap, this summer series is for golfers, run by golfers. It deserves your support. So either become a member or play in a couple of events to give it a try. I'm sure you will be glad you did.
